Exhibition Märta Måås-Fjetterström

When works by Märta Måås-Fjetterström – Sweden's leading textile artist – were put on show in the Hall of State at the Royal Palace, the exhibition proved to be a hit with audiences. You can now re-visit the exhibition, thanks to films, articles, images and even a virtual tour!

"LOOK AT THE RUGS – FIND ME"
Märta Måås-Fjetterström

When asked to describe her artistry, she said: "Look at the rugs – find me." It was her rugs that spoke expressively about who she was, her sources of inspiration, her life and career, and the conditions experienced by female entrepreneurs during the first half of the twentieth century.

2019 marked the centenary of when she began to weave, and The King took the initiative for an exhibition about and including her work, which was staged in the Hall of State at the Royal Palace. Rugs from the Royal Collections were displayed for the first time.

"I hope that the exhibition will spark the joy of recognition among older visitors and the joy of discovery among the younger generation. I also hope that visitors from other countries will become acquainted with a world-class Swedish textile artist." King Carl Gustaf

Together with generous loans from businesses, institutions and individuals, around sixty of Märta Måås-Fjetterström's works were put on show. The exhibition was staged in cooperation between the Royal Court and the Fundraising Foundation for the Preservation of Knowledge of Märta Måås-Fjetterström's Rugs and Weaving.

IN THIS FILM (in Swedish) from December 2019, exhibition curator Kerstin Hagsgård and set designer Ulrika Wolff describe the work involved in the exhibition.
