Late summer at the Royal Palaces

Late summer invites to seven open Royal sites, a historical retrospective at the Royal Palace and a major art installation in Royal parks.

Open summer palaces

The royal summer palaces were of great importance to royalty, offering relaxation and time for interests such as interior design, art, animals and nature.

For example, King Gustav VI Adolf created a living room that changed Swedish design history at Ulriksdal Palace.

Three summer palaces will be open weekends in September: the Chinese Pavilion, Rosersberg Palace and Ulriksdal Palace.

A Royal residence, a historic castle and a World Heritage Site

The Royal Palace (The King's official residence), the World Heritage Site of Drottningholm Palace and the medieval King Gustav Vasa's Gripsholm Castle with the national portrait gallery are open daily!

The Riddarholmen Church – Stockholm's only preserved medieval abbey – will also be open daily in September.

The Royal parks

Stroll through the extensive palace parks and visit Royal Djurgården – the world's first National City Park.

As well as a wealth of natural experiences, there are also historic buildings, art and sculptures to discover in the parks. The Royal Walks app will guide you for free.

Major outdoor art exhibition

The Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm presents a major outdoor exhibition by the Italian sculptor Davide Rivalta.

The project comprises thirteen monumental animal sculptures installed in some of Stockholm’s most symbolic and historically significant locations – between the Royal Palace and the Parliament at Mynttorget, as well as in Hagaparken and on Norra Djurgården.
