This year is only the second time in Sweden's history that a king and queen have celebrated 50 years of marriage. The previous time was in 1907, when King Oskar II and Queen Sofia celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

We are marking this anniversary with a retrospective display in the State Apartments at the Royal Palace. The King and Queen have selected a number of the wedding gifts they received from the Riksdag and the Government, their family and the people of Sweden.

Queen Silvia's iconic wedding dress, the King's admiral's uniform with his insignia and the bridesmaids' dresses will be included in the display. The Queen's engagement dress will also be on show for the first time. There then follows a photographic retrospective depicting The King and Queen's 50 years together.

A wealth of commemorative items, newspaper supplements and souvenirs were produced to celebrate their wedding in 1976, many of which are well known and will evoke a sense of nostalgia. The display includes a selection of these items.
